Bell X-1 - Supersonic aircraft


Bell-X1, initially XS-1 is the first aircraft to exceed the speed of sound. He is the first X-plane, a series of aircraft designed to test new technologies and usually kept in strict confidentiality. X-1 # 46-062, nicknamed "Glamorous Glennis". On October 14, 1947, Chuck Yeager of the United States Air Force flew the aircraft # 46-062, which he called 'Glamorous Glennis', over his wife. Rocket powered aircraft was launched from the belly of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress that has been modified. Aircraft # 46-602 is the model that is now on display in the main atrium at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, adjacent to Spirit of St.. Louis and SpaceShipOne.
